Some are having issues with Steam and joining multiplayer with an online profile. You will still need to have the disk in your drive to play though but yes the overlay will work when you run the game from inside steam. It worked back then and continues to work now. Good luck. Oh and P.s. the file i added was from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War\CoDWaW.exe" but i obviously only added the WaW.exe

STEP 4: If you have the game on steam (most likely), you will have to remove permissions in the registry folder, so that Steam cannot reset the key back to what it originally was. or to download a cracked version of the game, and when you install it, you can insert your cd-key and it will be almost a genuine copy. you can even join some multiplayer matches and zombies matches. YOU own the game, you have a legal right to play backup copies if you so wish, but I highly reccomend just buying the damn external drive.
Launch Steam. Click the Games menu, choose Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library. Browse for games on your computer or put a check next to the game (s) you wish to add to the Library. Click Add Selected Programs. Start the game through Steam, and in the game you can press SHIFT+TAB to get the Steam Overlay.
