Re: Nikon Z 24-70 f4.0 S vs. Fuji XF 16-55 f2.8? In reply to Gibbosa • Mar 3, 2020 I’m in a very similar position, I am coming from a X-T2 with the 16-55 2.8, I am considering the switch to FF with the Nikon Z6 being cheaper then the up coming X-T4. The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is no different. It has an impressive set of handling features, much better than those of the Z 24-70mm f/4 S. Specifically: The 24-70mm f/2.8 has three control rings (zoom, focus, and custom) while the 24-70mm f/4 has two (zoom, focus) The 24-70mm f/2.8 has an EL display, while the 24-70mm f/4 does not The front element doesn’t rotate. This is important if you use filters, as some such as polarising or gradient filters have to be orientated a certain way. Includes lens hood. Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S. Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S. It comes with a lens hood so that you don’t have to buy it separately.
Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S vs Sony FE 24-70mm F/4 ZA OSS Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* vs. Tamron SP 24-70 f/2.8 Di VC USD G2. vs. Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 USM. vs.
The Z 24-70 f2.8 is razor sharp at every focal length and I read it’s as if you had several primes in one lens. I just went to the z 24-120mm f4 since it’s a better walkabout lens for my style of general photography. FYI the lens hood of the z 14-24 f2.8, adapted for the 112mm filters, fits the other two trinity lenses. If you’re looking for a versatile do-it-all lens, the Nikon Z 24-70 f/4 S is a fine choice. The only other Z mount lens that offers this much versatility at the time of writing is the Nikon Z 24-70 f/2.8 S which costs an eye-watering $2,296.95. If you don’t need the extra stop of light that lens offers, the f/4 version will do well for you. For what it's worth, I'll be replacing my 24-70 f/2.8E ED VR with the Z 24-70 f/2.8 when it comes out next year. On my Z7 body the 24-70 I have seems huge and heavy. It's also much more heavily vignetted at 70mm than I expected. Yes I really don't like the vignetting on the s lens. I did a comparsion on the both and the difference are huge. Above: Nikon Z 24-70mm f4.0 S (left) vs. Nikon Z 24-70mm f2.8 S (right) Weight: 803g (28.4 oz.) plus 43g for the lens hood. That’s between the f4.0S at 497g (plus 28g for the lens hood) and the f2.8E VR at 1066g plus 60g for the lens hood plus another 133g for the FTZ adapter to use it on a Nikon Z body. Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 S on Nikon Z7. The Nikkor Z 24-70 S is a lens that shows Nikon’s attention to detail on the design table. Tamron Unveils 28-75mm f/2.8 for Sony, 70-210mm f/4 for Canon 14-30 F/4. - S quality build. - wider and longer. - likely a bit sharper based upon the MTF charts. 18-28 F/2.8. - faster by a stop (though don't often shoot wide angles wide open) - slightly lighter, more compact. - slightly less expensive. For me the wider 14mm vs 17mm is key and S quality build is important.
